Review of Iowa's Boards & Commissions Report
The state of Iowa has completed a comprehensive review of government structure and operations, including a review of Iowa’s Boards & Commissions. The state committee has issued a final report recommending the elimination, consolidation or merging of Iowa’s Boards & Commissions. These recommendations directly impact the structure of the current independent Iowa Chiropractic Licensure Board, and it is imperative that all chiropractors express their opinions.

A comprehensive review of the overall government structure and operations was conducted to ensure multiple layers of government do not overlap or impede the experience and outcomes of Iowans. The Iowa's Boards & Commissions committee was formed to study and make recommendations on the structure of 256 boards, councils, commissions, and panels that span all of state government. What Can You Do?
Protect an Independent Chiropractic Licensure Board
The purpose of the elimination and consolidation of boards is to save money and create efficiencies by reducing administrative overhead and streamlining regulatory processes. The Iowa Chiropractic Society leadership has convened and they have set a mandate and strategic objectives to work towards maintaining an independent chiropractic licensure board in Iowa. We have determined that to maintain an independent licensure board an increase to license fees is warranted. The below cost is an estimate of what it would take to run an independent board.
Currently, licensure fees are approximately $120 every 2 years and do not meet operational needs. If the Chiropractic Licensure Board were to share staff the licensure fees would be approximately $235 every 2 years for each licensed Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) in Iowa. It is important to note that the specific fees and cost estimates provided may vary depending on the board's operational needs and the number of licensed professionals in the state.
What is the Estimated Cost to Run a Board?
Staff and Benefits $207,500
Board Reimbursements $ 6,000
Database and Licensing $ 10,000
Total $223,500
